Alaungdaw Kathaapa National Park

The Alaungtaw Kathapa National Park was the first of its
kind to be established in Myanmar. The reserved forest
area comprising 620.32 sq. miles (397,003 acres) was
designated to National Park status in 1984. Alaungtaw
Kathapa National Park is 274754 acres of Pusoelone
Forest and 122271 acres of Taungtwin Forest.
The Park is situated in Yinmabin Township of the Sagaing
Division, west of the Chindwin river, and the east of
the Myitha river.
The area was selected because the forests were mostly
intact, and the forest types distinctly diverse as was
also the tree species stocked within individual types of
forests. Other floral species are also abundant,
particularly a wide variety of wild orchids. The area is
also rich in wildlife with the Tiger and the Asian
Elephant being the focal species. Bird-life is varied,
with about eighty species having been recorded; but the
number of species occurring within the area is
considerably higher.
The rainy season is said to be the period when the
forests are most attractive and wildlife most visible.

Day 1 Mandalay - Alaungtaw Kathapa by car

Morning departure from Mandalay to Alaungtaw Kathapa.
Driving about 2 and half hours to a SinPhyuShin bridge
near the town of Monywa and continue driving to a town
of Yinmabin for 2 hours. Lunch break and proceed to
Kapai village located at the foot of the hill about 1
hour and the rest trip will be up and down hill driving
into the area of thick forest. After driving about 4
hours, you will get to a pagoda camp for overnight
visitors.
Day 2 visiting around
Hiking around the sight or elephant riding. Bird washing
and inspiration of peace and tranquillity from forest.
Visit famous scared site of Pagoda. Overnight at pagoda
comp.
Day 3 Drive to Mandalay or Bagan
Drive back to Mandalay or proceed to Bagan.
